50 Book Challenge – Update

For those of you in the know and those just finding out, I try to read at least 50 books each year unrelated to school (though I’m finished with that) and/or work. It’s pleasure reading, pure and simple. Anything counts and the minimum is 50 books. Here’s my list for 2009 so far:

  1. Married in Seattle by Debbie Macomber
  2. Multiple Blessings by Jon and Kate Gosselin
  3. Witch Heart by Anya Bast
  4. Escape by Carolyn Jessop
  5. A Ring of Endless Light by Madeleine L’Engle (re-read)
  6. Chances by Nora Roberts
  7. Princess Diaries 10: Princess Mia by Meg Cabot
  8. Sundays at Tiffany’s by James Patterson
  9. The Next Thing on My List by Jill Smolinski
  10. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (re-read)
  11. Ireland (Travel Guide) by Tim Perry
  12. The Disengagement Ring by Clodagh Murphy
  13. I’d Tell You I Love You, But then I’d Have to Kill You by Ally Carter (re-read)
  14. Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter (re-read)
  15. Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bible! by Jonathan Goldstein
  16. Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler
  17. Emily and the Scot by Kathryn Smith
  18. Vision in White by Nora Roberts
  19. Rattled! A Memoir by Christine Coppa
  20. Ransom My Heart by Meg Cabot
  21. Persuading Annie by Melissa Nathan
  22. An Assembly Such as This by Pamela Aidan * (currently reading)

As you can see, I’m just shy of 25 books by the end of the first half of the year. So I’ll have to pick up the pace this summer to catch up, if I want to make 50 by December 31st. Luckily, the summer is slow in terms of distractions, so I should be able to make up the reading time.

As for the books waiting in the wings, here’s what’s on my “to read” list: the rest of Pamela Aidan’s Fitzwilliam Darcy series; Don’t Judge a Girl by Her Cover (Ally Carter); The Pretend Wife (Bridget Asher); Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict (Laurie Viera Rigler); The Faith Club (Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver, and Priscilla Warner); Yentl’s Revenge (Danya Ruttenberg and Susannah Heschel); Impossible (Nancy Werlin); The Host (Stephenie Meyer); re-read Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (J.K. Rowling); re-read The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins); and possibly some YA fantasy fiction, like Kristen Cashore’s Graceling, Lois Lowry’s The Giver and Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series.

And if that wasn’t enough to keep me busy, I’m joining my friend Lindsay’s book club. We haven’t picked the first book yet, but I’m sure it will be another to add to the list.

Yay for Harry Potter books! I'm rereading them in preparation for the HBP coming out on the 15th! Super excited about that.

I've read all the Twilight books and The Host and I have to say, I enjoyed The Host more than any of the others. But I don't know if it's because it was good or because I was amused by how it closely resembled SG1.

The Giver is an excellent read. I would definitely check out the whole trilogy (Gathering Blue & Messenger). Very quick and well worth the time.

Thanks Becky! I've been meaning to read The Giver for a long time. And I've heard great things about The Host. I'll post reviews once I finally get around to them.
