Hey, bookworms – looking for something fun to do on a potentially rainy day in Boston? Come visit me at the Boston Book Festival tomorrow!

From 10am to 6pm, Copley Square will be transformed into the 1st Annual Boston Book Festival. There are going to be local literary and literacy nonprofits (including the organization yours truly works for), authors and illustrators and presentations and panels highlighting Boston’s “innovative spirit in literature and technology.” Local authors Anita Diamant, Arthur Golden and Dennis Lehane will join Ken Burns, John Hodgman, Tom Perrotta, former US Poet Laureate (1997-2000) Robert Pinsky, Chris van Allsburg and many others at the festival.

Throughout the day, several events and author panels will be held in the Boston Public Library Main Branch, the Old South Church and Trinity Church (all located around Copley Square). Panels will include a tribute to Chris Van Allsburg,“Books Worms and Net Crawlers,” “Boston Roots,” “The Future of Reading: Books without Pages,” and “Thrillers and Killers.” There’s also a chance for budding writers to get advice from the professionals. In the afternoon, there will be a writing prompts workshop to help get the creative juices flowing. Then there’s “Writer Idol,” an open forum that will provide honest, critical and freewheeling feedback (those with thin skin need not apply).

But, really, it’s all about me! My co-workers and I will be there in one of the booths/tents set up in the square and we’ll be talking to people about our work (which is language arts and character development curriculum). So come visit me! I know it will be rainy, but a little rain never harmed a book (emphasis on “a little;” a lot of rain, however, well that’s a different story).
