About LND

Once upon a time, a little blog was born. And like all curious little blogs, eventually it wanted to know where it came from…..

The Librarian Next Door started as a class assignment. In the Fall of 2008, I was taking a social media course in graduate school and was instructed to start and maintain a blog as a semester-long project. I’ve always loved to read, so it seemed natural to start a blog all about books. At the time, I knew very little about blogging and even less about the book blogging world. I simply dove in and figured it out as I went along.

It’s been 8+ years (!!) and while The Librarian Next Door is still reading and writing, it’s a different kind of reading and writing. I’m now in my second year of a four-year PhD programme, so I don’t update LBD very frequently. But I’m keeping this blog around, because you never know where life will take you.

(I’m not actually a librarian. My PhD research area is digital media and digital narratives. I just thought the name sounded cool. I do respect and admire real librarians. They are awesome.)

If you’d like to know more about me, I have a Tumblr called Ordinary Mer. You can also find me on Twitter. See what I’m reading on my Yearly Reading Challenge page or check out the book blogs I love on my Literary Love page.

And they all lived happily ever after.

  1. “Put anything in front of me – a book, a magazine, an advertisement, even a cereal box – and I will read it.” Sounds just like me! I’m still trying to come to grips with the fact that I will not be able to read every word that has ever been printed!

Jean – just because we may not be able to read everything in the world doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try!
